4th Grade problem-solving from Krystina Kelly

Description

This is a great VoiceThread example because it shows how an entire 4th grade class can work together to develop problem-solving strategies.

Benefits to students

  • VoiceThread notes: Students learn to use technology.
  • Students learn to develop problems in math, and present them to peers for feedback in a collaborative online setting.
  • Students learn new ways to approach math and express the processes they engage in to solve problems.
  • Students think critically about what they have learned.

Process/Assignment

I planed my project based on students who wanted to share their work and communicate with other students in the fourth grade that were not in their classroom.

The goals were for students to develop creative-thinking and problem-solving strategies. The objectives were for students to use voicethread to showcase their creative math mysteries that they wrote and to share their process and answers for solving their math mysteries.

Challenges or setbacks

The easiest part was making the student identities. Some of the students were not able to upload their documents. I am still not sure why.

VoiceThread notes: Please note that issues with VoiceThread software is often due to network settings that don't allow the application to function fully. Please see this post for the network requirements, and pass on to your network administrator, if necessary. If making network-setting changes doesn't help, please don't hesitate to contact us for assistance.

Tools

Only typing our documents in Word and using the SMART Board for showing examples.

Tips

I would advise that you provide students with at least one time per week to post responses and to provide a rubric for assessing student work.
